This is a less-known territory of India but a rich treasury of ecology. An undoubting lace of deep green so all pervasive there – with no dint and butler anywhere. Added with the village life style and hospitality of people this terrainous land may be the ideal domain to rest in, particularly for those who wish to escape from the daily grind of life or need a change of climate foe rejuvenation of physical; and mental health.

Tripura, at a tine state situated the southwest corner of the North-eastern region, is such one. Enriched by wider reserve of natural resources and its entire milieu, Tripura, however, is under the grip of a lot of problems. Specifically to mention a few of those are its inaccessibility, backwardness and extremist related violence. Admitting the problems therein, it may also be claimed that an all out human process so as to turn away all those oddities has begun.

Tripura is bestowed with a bonanza of bewildering variety of landscapes, rich distribution of flora and fauna. The province has also preserved archaeological treasures of past civilization as well as ancient religious sanctorum of the Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim. It offers a pleasant combination of natural beauty and culture. Who does not intend to savoir the aesthetics of nature and life? Yes, natural life and lively nature – both and their ingredients, as a whole, have made this ancient land of mysterious past an ideal haunt for tourists in general.

Historical base of this mixed populated state is that is was consolidated as a Kingdom by a tribal King of Indo-Mongoloid origin and who later assumed the dynastic title of Manikya. A number of Tripura Kings were generous and enlightened who invited thousands of Bengali population of varied working groups from the erstwhile plain Tipperah and East Pakistan to settle in Tripura for the welfare of tribal people under their rule. Over the passage of time, a large chunk of influx of Bengali refugees from the erstwhile East Pakistan had been provided shelter, food, clothes and even land with a rare kind of generosity of the king and people.it os motable that one of the enlightened Manikya rulers Maharaja Birchandra Manikya Bahadur was a friend of Novel laureate Rabindranath Tagore who visited Agartala at the invitation of the former. Tagore immortalized Tripura on his novel ‘Rajarshi’ and ‘Visharjan’ based on legends of the Tripura Kings.

It is also fascination to charge with ethnic diversity of the state. Each tribal community has its own language and distinctive from of cultural expression, such as music and dances. Tripuris have the Goria dance, the Reangs have the Hozagiri and the Chakmas have Bijhu dance. They have their own musical instruments like Sumui, Khamb and Labang which are made of bamboo. On the other hand, in parallel dimension the non-tribal populace practice Rabindra Sangeet and dance, Gnjan dance, Dhamail, Jari-Sari and Murshidi-Marfiti. As a whole the land and its people unveil a cultural confluence.
