Clarke, Pietersen, Hussey, Sangakkara and Dhoni big movers as Symonds, Hayden and Tendulkar drop out of top 10
New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori celebrated a 3-1 series victory over England by achieving his personal best in the LG ICC Player Rankings for ODI bowlers but Jacob Oram’s reign at the top of the all-rounders’ list lasted little over a week.
Vettori, who surged to the top of the bowlers’ rankings after the third match in Auckland , gained 10 more ratings points in the last two matches to now have 790 ratings points. Vettori had figures of 8-154 in the series.
Vettori’s team-mate Kyle Mills also made movement in the right direction when his series figures of 5-214 lifted him three places to fifth position. With Shane Bond, who is not taking part in the series in third place, New Zealand now boasts three bowlers in top five.
England fast bowler James Anderson slipped three places to 24th position after he managed just four wickets in the series and England’s only bowler in top 20 remains Andrew Flintoff who, despite missing the series because of injury, hung on to his 15th position.
The good news for England ’s bowlers was the rise of Ryan Sidebottom who climbed 22 places to sit in 65th position. Young Stuart Broad, despite finishing as the pick of bowlers with eight wickets, slips two places to 32nd position.
In the LG ICC Player Rankings for ODI batsmen, England ’s Kevin Pietersen gained two places after scoring 165 runs in the series to sit in seventh place. Alaister Cook, who top scored with 184 runs, rocketed 16 places to 59th position while Ian Bell and captain Paul Collingwood gained one spot each to 21st and 22nd positions respectively.
For New Zealand, Brendon McCullum was rewarded for his series effort of 261 runs by rising four places to 25th, Jamie How leaped 20 places to 30th position after a series aggregate of 201 runs and Jesse Ryder completed his first series international cricket in 95th spot after scoring 196 runs.
The biggest reshuffle in the batting order came following action in the Commonwealth Bank Series where Australia ’s Michael Clarke achieved a career-best ranking following Australia ’s 24 runs victory over Sri Lanka in Melbourne on Friday.
Clarke, who scored in 50 in the match, jumped 10 places to sit behind captain Ricky Ponting in second place.
The other big movers from the ongoing series Down Under included Clarke’s team-mate Mike Hussey, who improved three places to fifth position, and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni who returned to top 10 and currently share ninth-place.
Sangakkara jumped seven places while Dhoni climbed four places as Yuvraj Singh also improved three places to 16th position.
Some of the biggest names currently involved in Australia , however, faced a contrasting fortune.
Adam Gilchrist, who a couple of weeks back had climbed to second place, slipped four places to sixth spot while Australia’s Andrew Symonds, Matthew Hayden and India’s Little Master Sachin Tendulkar dropped out of top 10.
Symonds and Hayden dropped six places each to slide to 11th and 12th positions respectively while Tendulkar lost seven places to slip to 14th spot.
With more action to follow over the next couple of weeks, further changes in the batting order are expected.
In the LG ICC Player Rankings for ODI all-rounder, Jacob Oram’s top flight lasted only 10 days. After leading the all-rounders’ chart following the third match, Oram’s series contribution of 88 runs and two wickets saw him drop back down the ladder to share fourth- spot with West Indies ’ Chris Gayle.
Oram also lost nine places in batting list and four spots in bowling chart.
The all-rounders’ list is headed by Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik with South Africa ’s Jacques Kallis just three ratings points behind in second place.
